What Is An Electrical Inspection Condition Report (EICR)?

At Electricity Bee Ltd, we prioritize the safety of your business and family. That's why we strongly suggest getting an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for your home or business. An EICR is a thorough examination of your property's electrical systems and installations. As with any working mechanism, your electrical system may deteriorate over time, and it is important to identify any faults or defects to ensure it is safe and efficient to use.

Our licensed and insured electricians have years of experience in conducting EICRs, and we take great care to ensure that every job is completed to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality.

The report evaluates the competence of your electrics in four categories:

C1 – this indicates that a major danger exists, risk of injury is likely and immediate action is required.
C2 – Potentially dangerous and remedial action is needed urgently.
C3 – Improvement to your electrical system is recommended.

FI- unable to source issue. Further investigation is required.

C3 is the only classification code that appears on a report and still passes the EICR test.

It is recommended that you have an EICR conducted at least every five years, although it may need to be more frequent depending on the installation or use. With Electricity Bee Ltd, you can have peace of mind knowing that your electrical system is in expert hands, and any potential hazards or faults will be identified and resolved promptly to ensure your safety.

What Does an EICR Involve?

First is a visual inspection it is a basic check to identify any visible signs of defects, damage or deterioration. No circuit testing will be undertaken, so your electricity will likely remain on during the inspection. The electrician will need to be given access to all of the rooms in your home.

The report will typically take around 1-2 hour to complete depending on the size of the property. Notes will be taken by the electrician as part of the visual inspection. The Visual Inspection report will record a number of observations and recommendations and provide an overall summary of the condition of the installation.

Below is a check list of the things you can expect to be looked at during a visual inspection.

  • Sockets

  • Fuse board

  • Light switches

  • Pendants

  • Light fitting

  • Spot lights

  • Electrical cables and leads

  • SIgns of wear and tear

  • Earthing and bonding

Next is testing of an electrical installation, specific issues that can be revealed through an EICR tests include:

  • Any issue with circuits or equipment that might overload or overheat the system

  • Would the safety devices installed, work correctly and in time

  • Areas of electric shock risks and fire hazards

  • Safety issues with bonding or earthing of installations and equipment

  • Potential faulty electrical work that could lead to faults or injury

Testing typically take 2-3 hours depending on the size of the property but largest and most complicated installations extra couple of hours to several days, or even weeks.
